The ICA Centenary by Helen Carroll
“Chopin - The Poet of the Piano”
The ICA were one of the most popular and influential women’s movements in 20th Century Ireland. Starting at the most basic, domestic level their aim was to make the lives of tens of thousands of Irish women easier. As they celebrate their centenary year, this talk will look at some of the greatest achievements of the ICA and ask have they received the recognition they deserve?
Helen Carroll is a broadcast journalist who has worked closely with the ICA on two television programmes in 2010: Ear to the Ground and ICA Bootcamp. In the making of these programmes she has researched the role of the ICA in farming, has met some of the women who led the organisation over the years, and examined the organisation’s battle to stay relevant. 100 years on, does this new generation of Irish women need the ICA?
